MAKERSPACE
June 4-8, 2018
Rising 3-5th Graders
Participants: 20
Instructor: Sydney Edwards

The engaging, hands-on activities in this camp allow students to explore, learn, and have fun while using their creativity and problem-solving skills. With lots of opportunities to create, explore, and design, campers will use their critical thinking skills and creativity to complete exciting challenges. Campers will also engage in crafts and free exploration with a variety of art supplies and building materials.

SKIMMER CHALLENGE
June 11-15, 2018
Rising 1-5th Graders
Participants: 20
Instructors: Lillie Small and assistants

Students construct paper sailboats and test the effect of different sail shapes, sizes, and construction methods to meet specific performance criteria. Friction, forces, the effect of surface area and design are some of the physical phenomena students encounter in this challenge.  Students will explore math, engineering, and physical science while working on design challenges using recycled materials.

DRONE STEAM ACADEMY
June 11-15, 2018
Rising 6-9th Graders
Participants: 20
Instructors: Samantha Smith-Herndon & Bruce Waller

The sky is the limit. This camp will allow students the opportunity to have concrete examples of how STEM concepts are applied and used in the real world while  using drones in instructional activities.  Learn what it takes to become a drone pilot! Pilot, code, and fly drones in this interactive drone academy. Test your precision: fun art challenges will be incorporated into this camp using drone technology.

JET TOY DESIGNS
June 18-22, 2018
Grades 6-12th
Participants: 20
Instructors: Lillie Small and assistants 

Students will make balloon-powered toy cars that meet specific performance criteria like; travels far, carries weight, or goes fast. Jet propulsion, friction, air resistance and design are the core scientific concepts students explore in this challenge.  Working in design teams, students will build and test model JetToys using different nozzles, and collect and analyze data to understand the effect of nozzle size on the performance of the toys. They will create other designs and test them, then give a formal presentation of their final JetToy designs.

MINECRAFT AND ROBOTICS
June 25-29, 2018
Rising 6-9th Graders
Participants: 40
Instructors: Joe Beasley and Jill Collins

You get two camps in one this week!  Students will be broken into two groups and will spend half their time at cap in each topic.   

MINECRAFT: Come explore and bring learning to life with Minecraft. During this week, we will investigate concepts of history, science, and math. Such as recreating Jamestown, exploring ecosystems, and place value town! Kids will also learn how to effectively collaborate with tools such as Scrum, an agile based framework that teaches teamwork. This camp will also incorporate hands-on projects to enhance learning. Let's start the adventure with Minecraft!

ROBOTICS: Enjoy learning circuits and programming.  The campers will use SNAP Circuits, Green Energy SNAP Circuits, MakeyMakeys, Hummingbird Robotics, and EV3 Robots.  From circuits to robots have fun with making things light up, learning to code, competiting with robots and much more!
