Jessie joined IALR in August 2012 and works to prepare and implement educational programming for learners of all ages, focusing on grades 9-12, and the educators that facilitate them. Jessie facilitates IALR's STEM Summer Adventure programs, IALR field trips, professional development for teachers, and other community outreach efforts, including the Southern Virginia STEM-H Summit. Jessie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, with a marine science concentration, from Eckerd College (St. Petersburg, FL). Her previous experience includes numerous research opportunities, including with Sea Education Association’s SEA Semester and the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences. Immediately before joining IALR she taught high school biology in Lynchburg, VA.

Danville Community College (DCC) and the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) embarked on a workforce development project commonly referred to as Capstone in the community. Capstone or the Gene Haas Center for Integrated Machining is a third year advanced machining program for students looking to build upon skills learned during their first two years at DCC.
