IALR has more than doubled its throughput for broadband internet services throughout its entire campus. The enhanced broadband bandwidth is synchronous, meaning that the improvements positively impact both upload and download speeds. As tenants, guests and staff continue to rely more heavily on video conferencing platforms, the bandwidth increase will help accommodate these needs more readily.
“The internet has become an essential utility and it is important for IALR to provide high-speed, reliable service to the community,” said Tim Kruggel, Manager of IT at IALR. “With the COVID-19 pandemic in full force, we are all relying on the internet more than ever, and this increased reliance has revealed the need for expanded broadband access for various audiences.”
The technological expansion impacts all buildings on IALR’s campus, including the main facility at 150 Slayton Avenue, SENTEC, the Charles R. Hawkins Building and the Rapid Launch Facility. One of the drivers for the broadband service upgrade was the consideration of adding the service for the Center for Manufacturing Advancement facility, which is currently under production and will be built adjacent to Kyocera SGS Tech Hub. The IT department made the decision to go ahead and expand the service in all buildings on campus.
Organizations in need of reliable, high-speed internet for virtual meetings or livestreamed activities may contact iccsales@ialr.org. Although the facility is closed to the general public, staff are accommodating A/V and space needs of small groups in accordance with all public health safety guidelines and best practices.
The expanded broadband capability went into effect in December 2020 and is supported by the provider, Segra (segra.com), one of the largest independent fiber bandwidth companies in the United States.
