Danville Community College (DCC) recently won Project MFG’s National Skilled Trade Championship which was featured on the reality show “Clash of Trades” on Project MFG’s YouTube channel. The winning team included Trent Oswald (right) and Chase Smith (center), students of the third-year, advanced Integrated Machining Technology program, housed and financed by IALR and instructed by DCC, and Koby Carter (left), a DCC welding student.
The teams were asked to build their own trophy with three components – a stand, midsection and the surprise feature element on top. The results were judged by a panel of experts on technical merit as well as overall achievement. As a result of the win, DCC was awarded $35,000. View the show at http://bit.ly/DCCmfgwin.
The goal of Project MFG is to shine a light on the need for skilled trades in the U.S. The U.S. Department of Defense’s Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment Program supports Project MFG and their creation of a new reality show that intends to change the perception of the skilled trades. It highlights trade skill competitions, the stories of individuals entering the field, and the high-tech work being done in the U.S. manufacturing industry.
